What is divorce mediation?
Divorce mediation is a confidential negotiation involving two married people. The people involved are dedicated to reaching a voluntary divorce separation agreement with the help of a trained mediator. Although each party may have an attorney, attorneys are not directly involved in the mediation and are not in the room during mediation.
Just as in the court process, the two people involved in the mediation provide full disclosure of all their assets, liabilities, income and information to each other and to the mediator. The goal of mediation is to reach a fair divorce agreement that both parties can live with minus the arguing and fighting typically involved in a traditional divorce.
This office not only provides mediation services, but also drafts a separation agreement reflecting the agreement reached by the parties during mediation. The separation agreement can then be taken to an attorney of your choice who will arrange to have your divorce fianlized in court.
Although divorce is one of the most difficult emotional trials a person will go through in life, mediation can shorten the process, greatly reduce arguing and fighting, and save the parties thousands of dollars. It is our goal that the parties who come to us seeking settlement, leave with resolution, peace and new meaning.
